CATCH THE COLLECTING BUG - VISIT THE ANTIQUES FAIR AT NELSON MANDELA SQUARE SUNDAY 4th AUGUST 2013, 09h00 – 16h00

Following the success of the annual National Antiques Faire, which saw some of the top antique dealers showcasing the very best in antiques, collectables and decorative arts, the interest in collecting is at an all-time high. Collectors can now look forward to visiting several monthly table-top antique fairs which continue the trend in collecting. The biggest and oldest of these monthly fairs is the Antiques & Collectables Fair at Nelson Mandela Square. Started over 20 years ago at the Sunnyside Hotel in Parktown, the antiques fair moved to the Sandton Sun Hotel and then to its current home under the porticos of Nelson Mandela Square. Open from 9h00 to 16h00 on the first Sunday of every month, the Fair stretches along the Upper and Lower Levels of the Square with dealers displaying everything from rare glassware to valuable silver; from porcelain to books and bric-a-brac.

Each month sees a flurry of excitement as collectors scour the Upper and Lower Levels of Nelson Mandela Square to find that something special or a really good buy. Whether you’re a collector of rare silver or fine porcelain or as a fashionista are looking to pick up an original 20’s beaded handbag or some costume jewellery, the Fair has it all… and more.

The over 60 antique dealers, who come from as far afield as Franschhoek and Natal, all have their regular spots and are amongst the most experienced in the country. Many are specialists in their field – be it in silverware, glassware or clocks and are more than willing to advise you and give their expert opinion and market value of any item you might have.

If you are thinking of starting a collection – and the choice is limitless – from collecting thimbles to art deco jewellery; from Murano glass to Royal Doulton; from pipes to children’s dolls – the dealers will be more than happy to give you tips on how to start and will keep an eye out for items to add to your collection.

Visitors to the Faire will also be entertained by a classical quartet between 11h00 and 13h00 on the Lower Level of the Square. Don’t miss the Antiques Fair – Sunday 4th August – 09h00 – 16h00 – Upper and Lower Levels, Nelson Mandela Square
